The City of Tucker Will be Protected by a Strong Police Force

Public safety is key to local quality of life, and a strong police force will protect citizens of the new City of Tucker from day one.

Police services will continue to be provided by DeKalb County Police in close partnership with neighborhoods – a collaboration that has reduced property crime by 20% in the Tucker Precinct, and by 18% in the North Central Precinct. Additionally an intergovernmental agreement between a new City of Tucker and DeKalb County Police will allow flexibility to fund and deploy additional officers.

Citizen input on the topic of police has been clear – the Tucker community prefers a fiscally responsible start up, with room to add additional services such as police if citizens vote to do so. Tucker citizens want a direct voice in costly and complex decisions, and a vote of all the citizens in the impacted area who will bear the cost is the most representative process for citizen decision-making. The legislature has no input into what services a city chooses to offer – legislators realize those decisions should be left in the hands of the local taxpayers who must pay for the services through property taxes.
