ABOUT HB 597

House Bill 597 changes the way people are appointed to the DeKalb County Board of Ethics. Instead of the County Commissioners making appointments to this board, its members will be chosen by the DeKalb Bar Association, the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, the DeKalb legislative delegation, the judge of the DeKalb Probate Court, Leadership DeKalb, DeKalb colleges and universities, and the chief judge of DeKalb Superior Court. The legislation also removes the Ethics Board’s power to remove elected officials from office.
